Abstract

Student performance is a central concern in higher education because academic achievement influences progression, graduation, employability, and institutional quality. This paper examines factors associated with student performance and promotion from one academic level to the next. The study uses a quantitative cross-sectional design based on a hypothetical sample of 240 undergraduate students. Data are assumed to have been collected through academic records and a structured questionnaire measuring attendance, study habits, access to learning resources, assessment performance, and academic support. Descriptive and inferential analyses indicate that attendance, continuous assessment scores, study habits, and access to academic support are positively associated with successful promotion. The paper proposes an evidence-based promotion framework that combines academic achievement with early identification of students at risk of academic failure. The findings suggest that universities can improve student progression by strengthening continuous assessment, academic advising, learning support, and data-informed intervention systems.
